Our Staff

 

The Rocky Mountain ADA Center, which serves federal region VIII, is operated by Meeting the Challenge, Inc. (MTC) and is headquartered in Colorado Springs, CO. Our staff consists of people with disabilities, spouses and parents of people with disabilities, and people with professional experience in the disability field. In addition, we coordinate a Network of local experts who conduct ADA activities in their states.

 

Rob Gilkerson, Architectural Information Specialist

Rob Gilkerson

Rob is a trainer and consultant specializing in the architectural access provisions of the ADA. He has an extensive background in accessibility related issues and has authored six wheelchair access guides starting with his first in 1988. He has worked with numerous organizations to develop ADA transition plans including Colorado State University, the White River and Arapaho-Roosevelt National Forests, the Colorado Springs School District 11, and Kaiser Permanente medical facilities. Rob was instrumental in creating a DVD based on the "Existing Facility Checklist" by providing both photos and technical interpretation of the ADA Standards for Accessible Design. He has been with the ADA Center since 2000. Rob earned his B.A. in Sociology from Colorado State University in 1992.

Candice Alder, Director of Technical Assistance & Training

Candice Alder

Candice manages the Center's training and technical assistance programs. With expertise in a wide variety of ADA topics, she offers guidance and helps people with disabilities and organizations understand their ADA rights and responsibilities. She has been with the ADA Center since 2002. She is featured on several of our products including our sign language posters and pocket guides. While working with MTC, Candice received training and a degree from Pikes Peak Community College in their Interpreter Preparation Program and provides interpreting services to Center clients who are deaf.

Maggie Sims, Leadership Network Coordinator

Maggie Sims

Maggie coordinates the Rocky Mountain ADA Leadership Network and is an ADA Information Specialist. She is also the editor of the ADA Center quarterly newsletter as well as the monthly electronic newsletter, Rocky Mountain Access. As the mom of a son who is profoundly deaf, Maggie has a particular interest in the areas of effective communication. She has done course work in American Sign Language and has received ADA training from the U.S. Department of Justice, Equal Employment Opportunity Commission, and The National Technical Institute for the Deaf. She has worked with the ADA Center since 1992. She holds a degree from the University of Colorado in political science.

Geoff Ames, ADA Implementation Consultant

Geoff Ames

Geoff is an ADA information specialist focused on implementation strategies related to transportation, facility access, and Title II self-evaluations and transition plans. He has attended the Easter Seals Project Action Mobility Planning Services Institute as both a participant and presenter and has been active in the Colorado Springs community serving for a year as President of the Pikes Peak Mobility Coalition and helping to initiate the Transportation Working Group of the Green Cities Coalition. He has done frequent trainings for bus drivers, advocates, human services providers, and people with disabilities on ADA transportation topics. Before coming to MTC, Geoff had over 20 years experience working in large and small businesses as a buyer, inventory analyst, retail manager, and accountant. He has been with the ADA Center since 2002. He has a liberal arts degree from Lewis University.

 

Chantal Woodyard, Outreach Coordinator

Chantal Woodyard

Chantal manages outreach and exhibit events for the Center. She also provides training and technical assistance on topics including mental health issues, employment, and access to government programs and services. Chantal has worked with the disability community since 1989 and spent many years working in residential services for people with developmental disabilities. Prior to joining the Center staff in 2009, she was an IL Specialist for the Independent Living Center in Southern Colorado. She is also an experienced grant writer and case manager. Chantal has a bachelor’s degree in Human Services from the University of Phoenix.

Bob Gattis, Director of Evaluation

Bob Gattis

Bob coordinates the evaluation program for the ADA Center and is president of Meeting the Challenge, Inc., a small business in Colorado Springs, CO that operates the Center. Bob co-founded MTC along with Randy Dipner and Dan Davies in 1989. He has served as corporate secretary and treasurer and as vice president, before assuming the role of president which he’s held since 2004. In his current role, Bob provides company leadership, executive and financial management, and serves as the acting MTC Business Support Services functional area director. Bob has extensive experience in developing accessible web sites for the Rocky Mountain ADA Center, the US Access Board, and other clients. He has presented Section 508 training to groups of web developers to help them understand the technical issues of web accessibility and Section 508 compliance. Bob has a B.S. degree in Electrical Engineering from Michigan State University and an M.S. degree in Computer Science from the University of Colorado at Colorado Springs.

Randy Dipner, Senior Advisor

Randy Dipner

Randy is a founding partner of and senior advisor to Meeting the Challenge, Inc. He also serves as a Senior Advisor to the Rocky Mountain ADA Center. In 1981 Mr. Dipner was recognized by the Johns Hopkins 1st National Search for Computer Applications to Aid People with Disabilities for his invention of a desk top Braille production system. From 1994 through 1999, Mr. Dipner sat on two Federal Advisory Committees to establish accessibility standards for electronic and information technology and facilities. Mr. Dipner received B.S. degrees in Aeronautical and Astronautical Engineering and Computer and Information Science from the Ohio State University in 1972.
